Finished projects

Here are pictures of my latest knitting projects completed. The first is a cropped cardigan that I made for myself. The second is a baby sweater for a co-worker's granddaughter, who should be arriving in time for Christmas.
The pattern for the cardigan can be found by googling Catherine's Mini Shrug Cardi. The pattern for the kimono is in the wonderful book "Mason-Dixon Knitting".

Pedicure socks

Finished my pedicure socks, finally. They're really comfortable, although I'm not crazy about the yarn. My sock knitting needles and books should arrive from knitpicks today, so hopefully I'll have something to show for them in a few days. I've also got a few other knitting projects coming up... dog sweater for a co-worker and baby sweater for a co-worker's grandbaby to be. Looking forward to sharing pics as I go along... need to get better with this blogging thing!

Oh, and the camera adds 10 pounds to your feet, too, WHO'DA THOUGHT?!?!?!

My boys

Just thought I'd share this picture of my boys... they sure are handsome, aren't they? (OK, so maybe I'm a *little* biased!) Anyway, this is the day that Grayson went to work with Daddy. He took his job pretty seriously, and even had to pick out his clothes and lay them out the night before... flannel shirt and blue jeans... my workin' man!!

Weekend Fun!

Just thought I'd post a couple of pictures from our wild weekend of fun ;) We made some slime, and folded some origami. The origami things are a dinosaur, a bat, a tulip and an airplane, by the way!
All of the ideas came from this cool service that they have "On Demand" on comcast called Activity TV. They also have a cool website, www.activitytv.tv... check it out!!

Been a while...

OK, so I haven't done so well with keeping up with posting here. Making a *bigger* mental note to do better! I don't have any pics to post with this one, but I will update on what I've been up to!

Our little guy, Wyatt, took a tumble on Sunday that resulted in a trip to the ER, and then a subsequent trip to the dentist on Monday. He's doing pretty well considering... we're just waiting a week to give his front teeth a chance to settle before making a final decision. But at this point, the dentist seems to think that 2 of his loose teeth will be OK, while the 3rd appears that it will need to be pulled. He's just giving it a week to see how it does, just in case something shifts and tightens down the really loose one... maybe they can save it. He did say that wasn't likely, though... so I guess he's going to be minus a tooth in the front until his permanent one comes in... 2 1/2 or 3 years from now. I keep reminding myself that it's just a baby tooth and it could've been a lot worse, but mostly I'm still pretty upset about it. Poor little guy. He's really being a trooper, though... the dentist told him to chew on the opposite side of his mouth, to give that tooth a chance to tighten up. And he's really doing a great job of that... he's very careful not to wiggle that tooth, too. He knows that it's something he has to be real careful about, and he's doing a fantastic job!

I've gotten busy organizing my kitchen since Stan finished my beautiful cabinet. He finished converting one of our closets into a pantry, also. Finally, after almost 8 years in this house, the kitchen has become a place you can actually *COOK* in... Cool!!! So I've been replacing old utensils, old pans, old dishes... gotten a bunch of cool new stuff! The utensils I've gotten are the silicone kind that won't melt (if, say, some "pseudo-blonde" leaves them sitting in the pan for a minute....)

The new dishes are SUSHI dishes... I decided to try my hand at that. My copy of "Sushi for Dummies" arrived yesterday from Overstock.com. I'm anxious to try my hand at California rolls. I bought a sushi kit from Publix the other day... it's got the Nori (seaweed) and the bamboo mat for rolling, along with Sushi rice and pretty much everything you need to make Sushi except for the "fillings"! Oh, and by the way, for those of you who are reading this and thinking "eeeww... raw fish"... well, "sushi" is really referring to the yummy seasoned rice. I think I read somewhere that 85% of all sushi dishes do NOT contain raw fish. And while if that's your cup of tea (not mine!!), you can certainly eat the raw fish. I just choose not too, and I'm still a huge fan of sushi... the sushi chefs at Publix are starting to recognize me when I go there!! :) Will keep you posted on the sushi stuff!

Father-in-law's Birthday

This is what we decided on as a birthday gift for my father-in-law. Happy Birthday!! :) It's a bath towel... I bought the towels, my Mom sewed them together, and a good friend of mine from work did the embroidery!

Beautiful cabinet...

I'm proud to post pictures of my most favorite Christmas present. This is the first large woodworking project that Stan has completed, and I think it's pretty awesome! I only wish that I had done a better job with the varnishing. I don't have much experience with that, so there's brush marks, drips, runs... (oh my!) But other than that, it's WONDERFUL!

Log Cabin Progress

Here's a picture of the progress on my log cabin afghan. It's coming along quite nicely, but it sure does slow down in a hurry! I'm working very hard to try to finish this one so I don't feel guilty starting on the Curve of Pursuit one!

Curve of Pursuit

My copy of the "Curve of Pursuit" afghan pattern arrived in the mail yesterday! I can't wait to get started on it. Of course, first I must finish the log cabin afghan... I don't want to have too many unfinished works! Here's a picture of what the afghan looks like:

I plan on making it with 3 different colors instead of two. Haven't decided what colors yet, but I'll get to that shortly, I'm sure.

My family...

I thought while I was putting stuff up here, I'd share a picture of my family... these are my boys :)

I've very proud of them and feel lucky to have them every single day.

Was that mushy enough for you? Sorry!! :)

Starting again...

I figure since everybody else seems to have their blog here I might do the same... my other one has gotten kind of left behind, mostly because it's sooooo slow. Anyways, glad you came to visit me here. I'm going to try to keep up with this one a little bit better than my old blog! I'll start posting soon about my family, the projects that I'm knitting, and whatever else comes to mind! In the meantime, the title... "Fixin' to..." When I moved to the South from Wisconsin 8 1/2 years ago now, I was always thinking that was a hilarious phrase. People saying "I'm fixin' to go to the store... yon't somethin'?" "I was just fixin' to mow the yard" I always wondered... it's not broke... why are they fixin'? Either way, there's lots of things that I'm always fixin' to do... knitting projects to start... letters and emails to write... blogs to post on... so I thought it would be an appropriate title.
